Approximately 1 hour from Geneva, the vast Portes du Soleil ski area boasts 650km of slopes between
France and Switzerland, one of the largest ski domaines in the world. There has been significant investment in facilities
and there are high speed chair lifts linking the resorts up to Avoriaz. The pistes are well groomed and there is a variety
of skiing for all abilities with some lovely tree lined runs towards Les Gets and many opportunities for off piste skiing
around the bowls of Morzine and Avoriaz. The season is long and runs from November when Les Gets often opens for pre-season
weekends until the end of April. The ski school has an excellent reputation.
The apres ski is lively in Morzine and more laid back in Les Gets and satellite villages like Chatel
and Morges which are more family orientated and have a traditional French/Swiss influence.
In the summer the area hosts the VTT world biking championship and there are fantastic opportunities
for hiking and watersports in lakes such as Lake Montriond.
